Netbook and Notebook Computers Compared
Computers known as netbooks, being as they are relatively new on the scene, have other labels placed on them such as mini notebooks or simply ultra-portables. Please note also that the phrase ‘notebook computer’ is synonymous with laptop computer.
Netbooks, are considered to be included in the sub-notebooks classification, which is a very swiftly-changing class of compact, lightweight, lower cost laptop computers that is intended for common computing plus the use of web-based programs (they can connect to the world wide web wirelessly).
They are offered for sale more or less as supplementary devices whose function is to add to an individual’s conventional computer resources. Further particularized references can include: small, lighter weight, minimalist and cheap laptop computers; as well as lesser, lower-priced notebooks.
Appearing during the later part of 2007 - as less sizeable laptop computers designed to maximize efficiency with attention to low weight coupled with affordability - netbooks did not include the cd/dvd drive, made-due with more compact displays and similarly keyboards, and scaled back on design and computational capability.
In the period since then, the netbook’s screen dimensions have had a variation ranging from a bit less than 5 inches to a bit more than 10, with their weight in the single kilogram (2. 2 pounds) range.
By the summer months of ‘09 netbook computers had become more than a little bit more cost effective in comparison with traditional laptop computers, to the astonishing point of having even been tendered as being a no cost incentive in consideration of the purchase of an Internet service plan by AT&T in Atlanta, Georgia.
In the short time since their release, computers known as netbooks have been growing in dimensions as well as features, while concurrently netbooks are being made lighter in weight and decreased in size. Therefore, physical traits like how long and wide they are and how much they weigh won’t end up being what can differentiate them.
The way it stands at present, perhaps a netbook computer is okay to be said to be a smallish, lower-powered laptop computer which has no optical disc drive (cd/dvd player/recorder). Yet that will not be for very long either, when you consider that optical disc drives are being designed ever smaller and stand to soon easily fit in a netbook computer. Plus, the wireless connectivity for computers will soon be reliable enough that external media like dvd’s and blu- ray disks can easily be done without.
So, for now, a netbook is best identified as a smaller, more inexpensive notebook computer devoid of an optical drive.
